**********WHAT A GREAT COOK I AM**********

Yeah baby! Two dishes that I make pretty damned well. Gots me some o' dat dao si gai (delicious morsels of chicken stir-fried in a spicy fermented black bean sauce) and some napa cabbage dish I tried duplicating (quite successfully cuz I'm a badass) after tasting it once at R&G Lounge. Nei 'm giu ngoh "SIFU"?!!

G/f training to subdue terrorists by shooting ducks on the screen.

Oh, Peggy asked what kind of phone I got, so without further adieu...world, meet phone...phone, meet world. It might be outdated already, but I really don't think I want a phone w/ a camera already built into it. I am not a big fan of the quality of the pics...it's an insult to my stature as a photographer *hahahahaha!*. Also, I haven't subsribed to the web-browsing plan, since realistically what the heck am I going to use it for? Who knows...I need to go to a store that has wireless web capability and test it out to see what it looks like on my widdle 1.75" LCD screen.

In any case, I'll be in Walnut Creek for the next month or so. Lucky me, huh? *F*CK!*

**********CELL PHONE BLUES**********

So I was relaxing in the jacuzzi after a nice workout when I got up to grab my towel and my cell phone decided to commit jusui-style sepuku by jumping antenna first into the boiling hot water. I immediately dove into the scalding pool of lost souls (and PCS signal) and surfaced with limp casing in hand. On close inspection, it appeared that the poor thing was slowly losing its grip on life...a beep here...a flicker there...there was no time to waste! I rushed home and gathered a makeshift emergency kit comprising of a medical grade mini-hex wrench and a can of sterile compressed air. There was no time for anesthesia...I had to operate immediately! Carefully but quickly, I removed the outer casing and started pumping in generous doses of the life-saving air, praying to the Almighty that the poor device will find a will to live. Racing against time, I decided to surgically insert the tube through one of the available orafices and battled the poisonous dihydrogen oxide (H20) one droplet at a time. Finally, there were no visible traces of the foul poison, and the stats pointed to stabilization. I proceeded to reassemble the outer casing all the while wondering, "Did he make it? Is he alright now?" Time for the moment of truth. I carefully...lovingly...stimulated the power button. A solid light! A resounding beep! My heart nearly lept out of my chest, but the euphoria was quickly dashed when the screen remained blank...unable to communicate to me what's still hurting inside...a Helen Keller of cell phones, if you will. *sigh* Early retirement due to a crippling disability is never easy...never...

BUT I got a new cell phone. Yay!

**********PRICE QUOTE**********

Big Mahalo's go out to Rob for being the ONLY person to help a brutha out with regards to buying a new car. Looks like we're leaning heavily towards the VW Passat for the passenger room and trunk space...man, I sound like a fuggin' grandfather. To continue the saga, I've received quotes from a at least 5 different dealerships via email or phone. So far, the best I could get was $600 below invoice. This includes a $500 rebate from Volkswagen. Also, there's a 1.9% APR (60 months) financing deal right now. Good deal? We'll see what else we can do when we actually visit some of these places this coming Sunday.

Anyhoo, a Weekend Update:

  • Friday: Took the day off since it was g/f's day off...worked out...ate lunch at Panda Express in SF Shopping Center...I swear they put crack coccaine in their Orange Chicken cuz it's friggin' addicting!...walked to the Metreon and watched Better Luck Tomorrow...overall a solid movie and a step forward for Asian-American entertainers in mainstream media...you can see by the pic above that it had a bad influence on my g/f...drove down to San Mateo to eat at Kaimuki Grill...found out that they use Rice Bran Oil (more on that later) to cook their foods...called it a night.

  • Saturday: G/f cooked brunch and later went to work...I stayed at home and watched Igby Goes Down...pretty good movie starring Macaulay Culkin's younger brother Kieran who I thought did a good job...also watched Femme Fatale...not bad, but not great...a few twists and turns, but the ending was less than desired...went to go eat dinner at P.P.Q. on 19th Ave. and Irving...called it a night.

  • Sunday: Ate lunch at Red Robin in Tan Foran Mall...washed the car...lounged around at home since everything was closed on Easter.

Ok...now about Rice Bran Oil. While waiting outside of Kaimuki Grill freezing our starving asses off, I was reading that they use rice bran oil to fry their tempura in and use it in a variety of other dishes. So naturally I was curious why they would advertise that fact, so I read on. Apparently, it's one of a few known cooking oils that actually reduces bad cholesterol without negatively affecting good cholesterol levels. I was like WTF? myself when I read it. I mean eating deep fried foods can NOW reduce your chances of heart attacks? I can have my cake and eat it too??? WOO HOO! Well, needless to say there are a ton of research out there to support this. Here's one for you medically inclined freaks. Someone wanna take a crack at understandig the jibberish after the first couple of sentences? And here's something that's more or less stupid-people-friendly (myself included). Now my question is where can I find this kinda oil...and in a Costco size to boot! I don't deepfry anymore since my apartment has the stupidest fuggin' cooking range vent in the f*ckin' world, but I'm just about out of cooking oil.

And about the cooking vent over the stove, remind me to take a pic (or a movie) to demonstrate how stupid some people were when designing our apartment. For one, the vent sux the smoke up only to spit it out upwards toward the ceiling. And what praytell is on the ceiling in direct line with the breeze from the vent? A SMOKE ALARM!!! stupid...stupid...stupid...

**********TRADE IN**********

I guess we're ready to trade in our 1999 "New" Jetta for something a little bigger (leg room) and with a little more oomph to it. I don't think we want a V6 engine as prices in the Bay Area are fuggin' expensive as hell. We'll most likely settle for a 4-banger 1.8 - 2.0L turbo-charged engine. Although I could rant about the cars I "want", only a few are feasible given our preferences in style and pathetic budget range. So it'll most likely boil down to either the VW Passat or the Volvo S40. Let me know what you folx think in the "Filthy Mouth" feature below. Also, if any of you have good "trading in your old car with payments still due on it" advice, I'd greatly appreciate it as well!

**********FLEA MARKET FUN**********

Weekend Update:

  • Friday *night*: Ate dinner at Hahn's Hibachi on Irving between 6th and 7th Ave....that location and the one on Post street are the only ones that have the "spicy" variation to their BBQ dishes - REAL ONOLICIOUS!...called it a night.
  • Saturday: G/f had the entire weekend off (yay!), so we got to sleep in a little late...ate brunch at Stacks in Burlingame...drove to Hillsdale Shopping Center to do some b'day shopping...ended up getting a cute toddler top at Baby Gap...drove to AMC 1000 Van Ness to see if we could get some tix to the 5:20pm showing of Better Luck Tomorrow, but everything besides the 10:20pm showing was sold out...ended up watching Anger Management...overall I was a little disappointed with the movie...and odd couple indeed pairing Jack and Adam together...ate dinner at Kantaro Sushi...too much hype around the restaurant led to a rather mundane dinner...one thing I'll give to their credit was that the sushi was made with "sushi rice"...called it a night.

  • Sunday: Treated g/f's friend, hubby, and daughter to some dim sum at Parc Hong Kongon Geary and 18th Ave....drove down to the San Jose Flea Market...one thing I can say for sure is that's it's not like the flea market I'm used to at the Aloha Stadium...ended up getting one of them devices where you can play 76,000 original Nintendo games of days LONG ago (bargained down to $25) as a b'day gift for g/f's brother coming up in June...in reality, it's less than 20 games multiplied by however many versions to make up 76,000 games (@ssholes!)...drove home and cleaned the apartment...tried the Woolite Heavy Traffic Carpet Control w/ Odor Eliminator to try to get rid of ground in cooking smells like hahm ha, dao si, and the likes...worked pretty well...ate dinner at Naan N' Curry on Jackson and Columbus...called it a night.

**********WIERD SIDE EFFECTS**********

Just a quick "WTF?" entry for today. So my eyes were acting up from allergies (sidebar: I never had allergies until this year...ain't dat a bitch?), and I decided to go downstairs and buy some allergy-relief eyedrops. I bought me a 1/2 oz. bottle of Visine-A ($8.67 a pop! What a f*ckin' rip!). I open up the package and found that folded up literature that talks about how it should be used and the side effects, etc. Anyhoo, attached to the folded up paper was a coupon for $1 off the same product! @ssholes! Even though there's no expiration date, it's not like I'm going to be carrying around the coupon in my wallet until gawd knows when I need to buy another bottle! I proceeded to read the "warnings" section when I immediately stopped at "trouble urinating due to an enlarged prostate gland". What the f*ck is THAT all about? Which "eye" are you supposed to use it on? So if I had that problem (which I don't!) and put some drops in my eyes, will my balls explode? YEESH!

**********SCARE TACTICS**********

I have a soft spot for hidden camera/prank shows. I'm also into science-fiction. And what blessings from the gods that the SciFi channel put the two together in a new show called Scare Tactics. Don't ask me why I get a kick out of watching other people get scared sh*tless, but hey, you have your Bachelor/Bachelorette/Real World/Road Rules/American Idol, I've got my SpyTV/Scare Tactics. I mean, how can you NOT laugh at this?
