Made it here in one piece! It's been mad-crazy the last couple of days making sure things at work don't implode on me while away. There just seems like a ton of things that management wanted to wait until the end of the friggin' year to implement. It's one thing to be GAAP compliant, and its another thing to comply with federal and state regulators! And to implement these projects in the span of 3 days/nights when I get back on top of my normal month-end closing procedures *gasp*?!!

Thanks to Madame Six and her hair stylist for a great recommendation! Although the aggregate price of the meal was about the same as Korea House, we definitely did not starve here! Much like BCD Tofu House, you choose what kind of tofu soup you'd like and indicate which of the varying degrees of spiciness you'd prefer. Add on the myriad of side dishes, and viola! a meal fit for a king for under $9 (tax + tip not included). Add the yummy-ass Kalbi for $15 and dayam you got yourself a meal for an emperor. We kinda overdid it (since our last disappointment) and ordered 2 soup-meals. So...if you just do one soup and a meat dish, your meal could end up even cheaper!
BTW, Gabby, once I figure out what/where the place is on the more "prestigious" side of Fillmore St., we're there!!!

I can't emphasize how disappointed I am with retailers this Christmas season. You'd think that after a rather lackluster year they'd give up the 25 - 30% margin on products and settle for perhaps 10 - 15%, increase sales volume, and deplete excess inventory. I guess you can never accuse those who complain about how disappointing post-Thanksgiving business has been on being logical. I mean, have we not learned the pitfalls of supply-side economics? Anyhoo, another post-rant, pseudo-deal of the day:

So I was craving some serious spicy Korean jigae(sp?) soup thang (after posting those LA pics the other day) and decided to look for an "authentic" Korean restaurant in the city to satiate myself. We went to this place in Japantown called Korea House. Just like most other self-dubbed "authentic" Korean restaurants I've been to, I nearly soiled myself from sticker-shock! $17.95 for what they call "Bul Ko Ki"!!! $8.95 for Kim Chee soup!!! Aside from the huge assortment of Kim Chee and other pickled, spiced veggies, I was really disappointed with the 2 main dishes. The Bul Ko Ki shouldn't have been under "BBQ" on the menu, cuz it was barely pan-fried...almost seemed as if it was stewed! The Kim Chee soup could barely feed two people. We had to pickle ourselves silly with the side dishes to stave off hunger pains later that night. Man, BCD Tofu House in LA tasted way better at a fraction of the cost...fooey...
Anyone have a better, more affordable suggestion?

As you can see, we shelled out $20 per person to check out the Great Dickens Christmas Fair at the Cow Palace. Oddly enough, we found out about this event from watching the Food Network where they showed this dude making crepes by dipping the bottom of a frying pan in the batter then flipping it over to cook it by applying heat to the concave part of the pan (hope that makes sense). The crepe wasn't extraordinary, but it was cool nonetheless. At $20 a pop, I personally think it's slightly overpriced. There are/were coupons in the SF Chronicle for $3 off (I think), but I found out after-the-fact...f*ck! Anyhoo, it was a pretty cool experience overall. The actors/actresses all stayed in-character even when they walked around town to socialize with one another.

Thursday:
- Woke up 3:30 AM...got to SFO by 5:00 AM...arrived in LAX by 7:30 AM...crashed at my g/f's brother's apartment...had some dim sum at VIP Harbor Seafood on Wilshire Blvd...spent some time meandering thru this store called Aahs (novelties, toys, etc.) cuz they were open on T-day...went to Ralph's to pick up a tray of brownie bites...drove to my g/f's "aunt" house for Thanksgiving dinner...went to a convenience mart to pick up some college type drinks for the kids (Boone's, Bicardi low carb fruity drink, etc.)...watched my g/f drink half a bottle and go nuts...called it a night.
- Woke up at 5:15 AM...got to Staples by 5:30 AM and stood in line...rushed, tackled, grappled, judo-chopped a buncha techies of southwestern Asian decent and grabbed THE last 160GB Maxtor internal harddrive ($40 after rebate!) and PNY 256MB flash drive ($10 after rebate!)...back to the apartment by 6:20AM...woke up and had lunch at King's Hawaiian Bakery and Restaurant...drove down and spent most of the day and early evening at Disneyland...drove to Costa Mesa and had dinner at Maggiano's (yep...that's right! and we'll keep going there every time we visit, too, dammit!!!)...drove back, got a bottle of Crown Royal...watched the kiddies take their first pitiful attempt at a "shot" of hard liquor...called it a night.
- After my first night of real rest, dropped g/f off at some salon in West Hollywood while the rest of us ate brunch at IHOP accross the street...drove through Sunset Blvd. and paid a visit to Hustler Hollywood store...did some light shopping at the Beverly Center...yet more light shopping on Melrose Ave...late lunch in Korea Town at this place called BCD Tofu House (oh mah gawd dat was good!)...more light shopping at some Westfield shopping center (near the MGM building...cuz that's what I saw when I looked up wondering why the f*ck were we still shopping!)...went back to the apartment to take a break...ate dinner at this Indian restaurant called Akbar Cuisine of India (there's a 20% off coupon if you click on my link!)...pricey and small portions...drove to In and Out across the street to supplement our meal with a cheeseburger...made our way to the edge of UCLA and had us some $1 ice cream cookie sandwiches (wish I could remember the name! it's surrounded by a buncha Middle Eastern restaurants if that helps)...somehow made it back to the apartment and crashed.
- Barely woke up...had lunch at Schatzi On Main (Schwarzeneggers' restaurant)...not bad...not great either...helluva lot better than Planet Hollywood!!!...walked around 3rd St. Promenade...drove to somewhere in Culver and picked up some badass hard tacos and enchiladas...went back to the apartment...packed...left for SF kicking and screaming.
