It's probably not a surprise to a few of you out there, but even though I was in AP English, I never read Oliver Twist. I did have a few preconceived notions about the story as a result of casual observation (highlights of the broadway musical, mentionings in contemporary conversation, etc.). When I finally got a chance to watch the latest movie on DVD, I was kinda shocked at how dark and morose the frickin' story was! I was anticipating a cute, feel-good movie, but ended up a bit sad and depressed even though Oliver ended up alright in the end. To "enhance" my frustration with the movie, the British accent was so thick, that I literally had to watch the movie with subtitles! In any case, my hats off to Ben Kingsley who did a great job portraying Fagin.

Oh mah gawd, you guys! My life has changed dramatically! It's as if I opened a wormhole to infinite possibilities! Many of you out there have already discovered this elixir of happiness, and I am but a humble johnnie-come-lately. Why? Why was I so stubborn and denied myself this gift from the gods?!!

Ladies and gentlemen...I've discovered how to use T9 Predictive Text Input...

Holy f*ckin' sh*t it's cold in the Bay Area! Chance of snow? WTF is that all about?!! I can't seem to remember the last time San Francisco dipped below 40 deg. F., so I guess I'll dub today as the lowest I've experienced since moving here after a one year stint in Spokane, WA. And guess what the forecast calls for the next coupla days! Continued cold temps AND showers AND isolated windy conditions! I know I'm bitching like bitchy bitch's bitch, but I'm from the sun-drenched state of Hawai'i...wachu wen' expec', brah?

Valentines dinner outfit...notice her makeshift closet on the floor next to the drawers

Had a pleasant dinner at Chenery Park last night. I would have taken pics of the food, but that would have ruined the ambience. That and I would have received a swift kick to the balls. Anyhoo, for starters we had gourmet Baked Macaroni and Cheese and Prince Edward Island Mussels with Spicey Rouille. For our entrees my fiance had the Spicy Seafood Gumbo with Scallops, Shrimp, Catfish and Smoked Bacon, and I had the Cajun Cassoulet with Duck Confit, White Beans, Corn Bread and Housemade Pickles. I had no idea what the dish was about (asking the waitress for a description left me even more confused). Basically, it was a salt-cured, fork-tender duck leg served on a bed of boiled, smokey-flavored white beans with some kinda spicy cucumber pickle. It's an acquired taste I think. For dessert, we had the Warm Gingerbread Bundt with Pumpkin Ice Cream, which was quite good.

"Doo Doo Drops"

Remember when I mentioned my entree was served on a bed of beans? Well, I had the much anticipated reaction to eating a healthy serving of the "magic fruit". It was a great opportunity to stress test the "doo doo drops" I got at a dollar store in San Mateo (BTW, that thing didn't cost $1...was more like $5). I've seen this product sold in most stores in Hawaii, so naturally I was very curious. I've used this product before under normal conditions (even brought it to work for some real-world field tests) to great success. All it took was one drop to mask the odors. Anyhoo, last night was the first time it was used for a "worst-case scenario". Happy to report that one drop held up surprisingly well, although two drops would have been perfect. I'd have to say that these drops were worth the 5 clams I dropped for it.

HAPPY VALENTINES DAY!!!

Not cooperative...

Taste of my own medicine

Southwestern eggrolls...the ones at Chili's are way better

Big frickin', chicken-fried steak...'bout the size of my hand!

Half sandwich (Chicken Ceasar Sandwich)...

...half soup (really creamy clam chowder)

This was our second visit to BJ's Restaurant & Brewhouse, and this time we went to the San Mateo location. I'd have to say that we had a much better experience at this location compared to Tanforan since we got seated in less than 10 minutes (compared to the 1.5 hours...big diff', dood!). Food was tasty and reasonably priced, but not that spectacular. Still haven't tried their Pizookie™, but one day, my friends! Mark my words!

My dubbed "egg kit"...don't mind the glue-booger my fiance attached to the beater's face...

Went to Bed, Bath and Beyond to pick up what I call my "egg kit" since our "thing" now is making our own sausage n' egg muffin' w/ egg white, turkey brown n' serve sausage, and 2% sliced cheese. 3 minute hot breakfast if you're organized...5 minutes top.

"Picture! Picture!"

Most unique float I thought

For the first time in years, it was rain-free for the annual Southwest Airlines Chinese New Year Parade. It was a fun time despite drunk, racist f*ckers commenting from the sidelines. Also, if I heard that f*ckin' song "Who Let the Dogs Out" again, it would be waaaaay too soon, man!

I vaguely remember wanting to see this movie opening night at some arthouse theater (Lumiere Theater on California near Van Ness?) because the writer/director Alice Wu and a few of the actresses were going to be there (sans Joan Chen...of course). BTW, I don't usually go to those types of events. In fact, that's probably the only time I genuinely had the urge to go. I think I was in the arthouse theater "mood" after watching Bride and Prejudice at the Embarcadero Center Cinemas. Anyhoo, in retrospect, after watching the movie, I feel like such a duf' for not going there and thanking the person that made "conjugating Latin" a GREAT thing to do and a f*ckin' AWESOME thing to watch!!! Three cheers to Michelle Krusiec and Lynn Chen! Holy f*ck I need a cold shower...

I promised my fiance we'd watch Brokeback Mountain to establish balance in this lopsided universe of ours.

Ack! F*ckin' work is driving me nutz! Ever since I got back from our short visit back home it's been December close, monthly variance analyses, 10-K requests and more analyses, January close, emergency issues, more 10-K issues......

Can I just skip the wedding and go straight to the honeymoon?

So heard somewhere that Il Divo had the numero uno album in the U.S. (or at the very least in the Top 5) and that they are managed/produced/whatever by none other than American Idol's Simon Cowell. Listening to "Everytime I Look At You", I thought that it would have made a great wedding song to throw in our program. After listening to the song, my unimpressed fiance wrote it off as one of my Josh Groban-esque infatuations. That was until I showed her their website. I haven't seen this kinda fervor since my fiance's dad told me about her NKOTB days!

Simon sure knows how to target his audience!

Alright...so it's drizzling out there and people are using umbrellas. What I don't understand are those guys (and they're almost always guys) carrying a f*ckin' tent on a pole! Do they NEED something that big to provide adequate cover?!! It just makes them look like stupid f*ckin' clowns if ya ask me. Is a 70mph gust of wind too much to ask for?!!
