Man o' man...really nutz right now. Not all of you know, but I recently applied for and got promoted to an accounting supervisor position. I'm now going through that ugly transition phase where I'm training my replacement but also training myself (since the crew I'm in charge of are pretty much new-hires and don't quite have the swing of things just yet). Craziness at work and at home...woooo...needed a bit o' a break from things. So this weekend was just the "leave me alone...let me catch up on DVD's to escape and relax" kinda weekend. Foodie blog (cont'd)... We passed by Hokkaido Seafood Buffet a few weeks ago and thought the worse it could be is another Todai. A bit more expensive than Todai on the weekend ($19.99...soft drinks not included), Hokkaido faired decently with our expectations. Needless to say the sushi and sashimi were pretty much a day away from being fish cake paste, so we concentrated a bit more on the cooked food. The Mrs. and I lucked out when the kind Mexican server gave us the two biggest lobsters on the pan. OK...he gave my beautiful wife the largest then pitied me with the 2nd largest. The frog legs and honey-mayo shrimp (no walnuts) were pretty good. The rest?...eh...Might return just out of curiosity, but probably not for their culinary excellence. 2200 Bridgepointe Pkwy San Mateo, CA 94404 (650) 212-2688 It's been at LEAST five years since we've visited my old college "pre-sh*tface drunk" restaurant. Aside from dimmer lights, that place hasn't changed a bit! So frickin' refreshing! Pay homage to my old haunts, will ya?!! 2055 Gellert Blvd Daly City, CA 94015-2825 (650) 878-3591 ***posted by Mouji on 6/13/2006 12:00:00 AM*** ::

I guess my blog is slowly turning into some kinda foodie blog. I guess the most exciting thing the Mrs. and I do nowadays is trying different restaurants and/or visiting restaurants we haven't been to since college days. Oh wells...at least there're pictures... To summarize (and quickly), the "soon dubu" was just mediocre. Against my better judgement, I got this place off of Yelp when reading reviews on My Tofu House in the Richmond district (remember? I was benchmarking my expectations with restaurants I like to see if Yelp was the kinda site I'd frequent?). There were a few references to this place and other non-descript Korean joints on El Camino Real in Sunnyvale touting them as THE place to go for Korean food. Anyhoo, the "soon dubu" was kinda bland, and the "daeji bulgogi" (spicy pork) was too sweet and not spicy enough. Ah wells...back to K-town in LA for some seriously good stuff... 3450 El Camino Real # 105 Santa Clara, CA 95051 (408) 261-3030
We were so hungry Friday night that we didn't have a particular "craving" for anything. Started to research for more Korean options (btw, I'm beginning to think that there are no reasonably-priced-but-good Korean joints in SF) when I saw a link to Dragonfly (rated 9.5 on Citysearch). Looked interesting enough, so we braved the difficult parking despite our burgeoning hunger. All in all, it was a pleasant meal. We ordered off of the recommendations of people who reviewed the restaurant. The "Flaming Beef" was more work than it's worth...the waiter took 5 long minutes vigorously stirring the beef around the bowl till it was cooked medium. Basically you pay for the pyrotechnics and labor involved. Coconut chicken was mostly a miss as it didn't taste anything like a coconut. Other than that, the meal was above-average. We might come back and order what other local patrons were ordering (cubed beef steak, clams, sea bass...). 420 Judah St. San Francisco, CA 94122 (415) 661-7755 ***posted by Mouji on 6/12/2006 01:45:00 AM*** ::
