Y'know, I kinda like my quick Weekend Update format...

  • Pepper-garlic sauce (choice of meat or tofu) is garlic heaven at President Two (little sister to President Thai)...Praram is good, too.

  • Near cardiac arrest chomping down on a deep fried hamburger patty w/ curry at Curry House

  • Burger at The Counter was pricey, but was fun to build your own w/ seemingly endless toppings/sauces combos...BTW, I had the veggie burger to balance out the previous.

  • Harry Potter 5 (IMAX 3D)...3 out of 5 stars...not the best but 3D was fun for the 10 mins it lasted

Tree huggin', crystal clutchin' tip o' de day -

So I read/heard about this toilet paper dispenser machine and how it dispenses only 5 squares per request. Initially, I thought, "That's f*ckin' all???". Then I started thinking that this only applied to women after they go #1...understandable, y'know? Well, turns out that Americans are jacking up the environment by using too much TP when wiping, and that men and women are both guilty of NOT being tightwads with their wads (of TP).

So I decided to do a stress test at the risk of TP structural failure. Following a night of taco truck debauchery, I sat on the poo-pot and counted 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 squares. AMAZINGLY, not only did stuctural integrity hold, more contact pressure was applied, due to the lack of excess padding, and increased cleaning efficiency! I guess wrapping TP around your hands like you're taping up to fight Rocky Balboa really isn't warranted! Woo hoo!

On that note, have a happy Friday!

Busy, busy, busy at work...no time to do a full update...must satiate with snippets...

  • Watched "I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry"...2.5 out of 4 stars

  • Went around downtown LA looking at condos and lofts...encountered my first LA superbitch

  • On our way back from DT LA, saw someone get arrested and a car fire at a gas station

  • Saw Keifer Sutherland near Los Feliz...he's pretty short

  • El Taquito taco truck on Fair Oaks is my new addiction

  • The original Bob's Big Boy still has a lot of charm left

  • Saw Joanie "Chyna" Laurer in a cheapy nail salon in Burbank...she's still kinda yoked...I envy her arms

So Wifey and I found probably one of the tastiest package of frozen gyozas at Marukai the other week. I'm probably not as observant as I would like to be since I JUST noticed last night that we got the Aji No Moto brand of gyozas! For those not in the "know", I'll spell it out for ya: Aji No Moto is one of the major manufacturers/distributers of MSG! No wonder it "tastes" good. Hoooo sh*t, I'm thirsty and sleepy just thinking about it....

So I've heard through the grapevine that somewhere deep inside CA Adventures you'd find a monster frackin' corn dog. Lo and Behold Corn Dog Castle and their monster battered franks! I imagined a footlong, but was equally surprised that what it lacked in length, it made up in girth!

Gee...is there an obvious joke or anecdote in there...hmmmm...one must ponder...

    Shaka Plate

Albeit it's a day off, I'm not a huge fan of mid-week holidays. They're pretty hard to plan for since you really can't get fracked up too much since you have to wake up the next morning and be cheery at work. Fug....

At least we got to try new restaurants. One decent find was Shakas Hawaiian Flavors via some posting on Chowhound that they have decent shaved ice (w/ condensed milk, ice cream, and sometimes azuki beans if there are some left!). Well, we ate lunch and didn't have room left for shaved ice. Life is a bitch sometimes, and you're just going to hafta roll with it. Of worthy note is their Honu Pepper Chicken and Sesame Chicken Wings. Gonna try other things once what we ate successfully makes it's way to the "other end".

At night, we met up with Wifey's family friends in Alhambra for a 7/4 celebratory dinner. One thing you can count on is that most Asian joints don't give a rats ass what holiday it is so long as it'll give a slight boost to sales. Anyhoo, looks to me we found yet another Vietnamese joint to eat that has more offerings than your typical pho joint. A few noteworthy dishes at Lee Kam Kee (no...not the oyster sauce brand): beef curry claypot served w/ french bread, soft shell crab, and their pho noodles were like ho fun (pronounced haw fun)...hmmm...maybe it was ho fun...**shrug**

Man...gotta increase the workouts with all this eating...

Laugh all you want at my continuing post-marital emasculation, but I just shaved maybe 5 minutes or more from my morning shower with this 3-in-1 bottle of melon'y fun! Start with the hair, then move the foam south until you hit the toes and rinse off! Fuggin'-A I'm done! IMO it's not overly fruity and has enough (melon) musk in it for it to be a passable gender neutral (a la CK "One") scent. If I didn't convince you, then...then...frack you!

Oh man! Can't wait to crack open the Orange Dreamscicle! So excited! SO EXCITED! ***claps hands***

Wifey and I thought that we'd take a relaxed approach to our weekend plans, but in the absence of a plan to relax (as odd as that may sound), events sort of piled up on its own:
    • FRIDAY *night*: For starters, it was my brother-in-law's (BIL) birthday, so decided to try a new Italian place (I know...super brave of us, but hell! we just moved here!). We spread out and ordered a bit of something from the four corners of Osteria La Buca's menu including the calamari, their famed burrata, 2 types of homemade pasta with 3 different sauces, grilled seafood medley, and (their 2nd most talked about dish) tiramisu. All in all it was what I hoped it to be and a bit more (the burrata stole the show!). I'll be honest that when I first saw the itty-bitty-teeny-weeny restaurant with graffiti-etched windows and black iron-cage door, I was ready to frickin' hightail it, but the inside was cozy and the service was awesome! Also, when the host started rambling how "Mamma" likes to do this or "Mamma" doesn't like to do that, I thought it was a gimmick or a play on the Italian culture for authenticity's sake. Lo and behold, "Mamma" was in the kitchen kickin' some culinary ass!

    • SATURDAY: Ate lunch at Islands Burgers due to a lack of motivation. We then drove down to meet up with BIL to head on down to Hermosa Beach. The place was packed silly, but we eventually found a parking spot and proceeded to lay out on the beach albeit with serious cloud cover. Once the eye candy started to matriculate out of our view (c'mon! let's be honest about why we go to the beach and not swim!), we headed to Santa Monica to exchange stuff. Smelly from sweat, we headed on down to Korea Town for some hardcore, underground BBQ replete with beef tongue and intestines! So...frackin'...good!!!

    • SUNDAY: Drove to Hollywood Highlands and had a lite lunch at the Disney Soda Fountain. The food wasn't all that great, and the dessert is standard fountain shop fare. We walked around for a bit before heading back to the BIL's 'hood and did some grocery shopping at Marukai and Japanese dinner in Torrance. I'd write more, but I'm running out of steam. Sorry...
